The Department of Communication Studies at California State University, Northridge seeks a qualified candidate to fulfill a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the role of Director of Forensics.

Qualifications: 

The candidate must have the following qualifications: Earned Ph.D. in Communication Studies or related field from an accredited institution required at time of hire. Demonstrated excellence in teaching and research in Communication Studies; demonstrated potential for scholarly activity resulting in publication or equivalent; active participation in the discipline of Communication Studies. Previous experience in a leadership role with a forensics program and working with culturally diverse students is required; previous experience administering forensics tournaments is preferred. Additional ability to teach in one of the departmental areas of instruction (communication theory, rhetorical studies, performance studies, and/or cultural studies) is required. Interest in community outreach desired. Applicants are expected to complement the strengths of existing faculty and must demonstrate ability and a commitment to working with a diverse student population.

At time of appointment, the successful candidate, if not a U.S. citizen, must have authorization from the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services to work in the United States.

Responsibilities:

Recruit and direct a forensics program that incorporates both intercollegiate debate and individual events competition. Supervise graduate assistant coaches. Direct intercollegiate and intramural tournaments. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the department curriculum. Develop collaborative programs linking the campus, the surrounding community, and CSUN forensics; identify funding and support for these programs. Teach in secondary areas as needed and as qualifications permit; advise and mentor students; develop curriculum in area of specialization; engage in a systematic program of scholarship resulting in dissemination of that work; serve on department, college, and university committees. Participate in the department's commitment to service learning, K-12 partnerships, and the university's teacher preparation initiatives.
