Assistant Professor - Temporary

The Department of Communication at the University of Delaware invites applications for a full- time Temporary Assistant Professor.

The Department of Communication, which is part of the College of Arts and Sciences, has 20 full-time and jointly appointed faculty, about 600 undergraduate majors and minors, and 17 students in the master’s degree program. With a focus on Social-Behavioral Science, the Department offers two concentrations within the undergraduate major (media communication and interpersonal communication), and is centrally involved in several interdisciplinary minors, including Journalism, Advertising, Interactive Media, and Political Communication. The department faculty -- a collegial group of outstanding and award-winning teachers, researchers, mentors, advisers, and public servants -- covers media, interpersonal communication, political communication, digital media, public relations, and broadcast journalism and production courses.

Ideal candidates should have a demonstrated ability to teach a range of major and service courses. Candidates will be expected to contribute to excellence in our teaching mission and teach up to four courses in our undergraduate program each semester. These classes include Persuasion and Public Speaking. We are especially interested in candidates with an expertise in digital/social media who can teach classes that integrate theories, research, and perspectives from both media and interpersonal communication. Applicants must have a PhD in Communication and have strong teaching experience. Applicants who are ABD will also be considered, but must have a granted PhD upon arrival. The start date is September 1, 2017, and the position is for one year, renewable annually for up to two additional one-year terms -- subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funding. Salary is competitive. The University of Delaware offers a generous set of benefits.
