ECA 2015 Convention - Subject: Waiting for my ECA acceptance

Subject: Waiting for my ECA acceptance

ECA Members,

It is that festive time of the year when twinkly lights appear all over town, fireplaces are lit with a warm glow, celebrations begin with ample food of both the savory and sweet varieties, and students are hunkered down in the library finally reading all of those articles that you assigned for the semester. With all of those wonderful goings on, you may have forgotten that you submitted a paper or panel or creative program to the Eastern Communication Association Convention in Philadelphia. We, however, have not forgotten about your submission. In fact, we are looking at it now.

Submissions are collected by Interest Group Chairs, reviewed, ranked, and sent along to the Primary Planner’s Team. THANK YOU to every single person who took the time to review papers and panels. You are a holiday gift to us! (If you are still willing to review, please contact our Undergraduate Scholars Conference coordinators: ECAundergrad2015@gmail.com).

Many of you may be wondering… now what? When will I know if my paper has been accepted and programmed for our 106th ECA Convention? We will be getting this information to you as soon as possible but are focused on getting out the most accurate program that we can. (We want to avoid, as much as feasibly so, having to make changes once the initial draft is made public; our goal being that you will not need to alter any set plans.) The combing and programming process takes time. We are currently looking through the submitted IG forms (unfortunately, not all Interest Group Chairs have submitted their paperwork yet, which is holding us up – but, to be fair, should we need to eliminate panels then we will go to those late groups first). We look for errors, questions, duplications (yup – a few panels were submitted to more than one Interest Group), missing details, etc. Once we have corrected files, we must make sure to get you in the right room at the right time and not in more than one place at a time. Traditionally, the program is made available late January and registration opens just after.

If you have questions, please just ask! If you would like to be showcased as a sponsor, have your school participate in our Graduate School Showcase, or honor your faculty or program in some way, let us help do that for you. We hope that in these next several weeks, as you are sitting down for your holiday feasts, that we are doing justice to your hard work by creating an irresistible, intriguing, and compelling 106th Eastern Communication Convention program.

Happy Holiday Season. We look forward to seeing you in Philadelphia in the Spring.
