Short Course 3: Exploring Strategies for Implementing Media Literacy into Existing Communication Courses

In our ever-connected world media is everywhere. As such, many assume that we are all media savvy—we may be, but are we media literate? This 3-hour course seeks to free media professors of traditional curriculum constraints by incorporating media literacy into their existing assignments and class discussion, thereby fostering a greater understanding of media messages, production values and the intended meaning behind those messages. This course seeks to enable professors and students alike to take media education beyond mere imitation of media techniques and formats. Both groups will become more knowledgeable and aware media consumers, producers and educators.
