Eastern Communication Association Annual Convention

ECA 2020, Baltimore, MD, Hyatt Regency Inner Harbor, April 1 – April 5

Submission Deadline: October 15, 2019  11:59 P.M. PST

The Health Communication Interest Group of ECA is now welcoming submissions to the 2020 Convention, which will be held in Baltimore, MD. Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, an area with one of our nation’s richest and most innovative histories, offers a unique setting for our discipline’s oldest existing association to gather and consider the ways in which we innovate (and need to do so).

We invite scholars, researchers, and practitioners to submit completed papers and panel proposals to the Health Communication Interest Group. Papers and panels that embrace the theme of “Harboring Innovation” will be particularly welcomed.

ECA uses Attendee Interactive to manage submissions and reviews. The deadline for submissions is October 15, 2019 at 11:59 PM PST. If you have not used Attendee Interactive before, you will be prompted to create a new User ID and Password to submit your work. The Health Communication Interest Group invites two types of submission and the specific requirements for each type follows:

Submission Guidelines for Completed Papers 

Papers should be written in accordance with the University of Chicago Manual of Style or APA 6^th edition (whichever is appropriate). The following fields will be completed for individual submissions: 

• A detachable title page with the title of the paper and the author’s affiliation, mailing address, telephone number, and email address
• The word “Debut” marked on all papers written by authors who have not presented previously at a regional or national convention
• A one-page abstract on the second page
• A statement of professional responsibility on the second page (see statement below).

Submission Guidelines for Panel/Program Proposals  

Please submit panel/program proposals as one MS Word file (.doc or .docx). Proposals should be written according to the University of Chicago Manual of Style or APA 6^th edition (whichever is appropriate). Include the following items in all panel/program submissions: 

• Thematic Title for the panel/program
• Names of the chair and respondent (if any). Chairs/respondents should not also be designated as panelists
• Names, mailing addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses, and institutional affiliations of all participants
• Titles and abstracts for each paper or presentation
• A program copy (no more than 75-word description) as it should appear in the final program
• A detailed rationale for the program/panel
• Estimated attendance
• A statement of professional responsibility on the second page (see statement below).

Include the following statement of professional responsibility with all submissions. 

In submitting the attached paper/panel, I/We recognize that this submission is considered a professional responsibility. I/We agree to present this paper/panel if it is accepted and programmed. I/We further recognize that all who attend and present at ECA’s annual meeting must register and pay required fees.
