ECA Political Communication Interest Group Election Open

Dear ECA Political Communication Interest Group members,

As Sean expressed before, I hope you all are hanging in there during this COVID-19 crisis.

The purpose of this email is twofold.

First, we need volunteers to run for Secretary of our Interest Group. No one has volunteered to run for that role since Sean put out the call the other day. The duties of the secretary are as follows:

• Secretary: This person will be responsible for planning Wine & Spots and serving as Secretary at the 2021 ECA Convention in Cambridge, MA; serving as Vice Chair and program planner for the 2022 ECA Convention in Buffalo, NY; and serving as Chair for the 2023 ECA Convention (location TBD, with ECA leadership aiming to host this convention in Baltimore, MD).

Please send me your nominations (including self-nominations) by Friday, April 10 at 6 pm. If you are the only nominee who agrees, you will be the lucky winner. If there are multiple candidates, then we will try and have a quick election early next week.

Second, we need to vote for the Interest Group Representative to the ECA Executive Council. The duties of that person are the following.

• Interest Group Representative to ECA Executive Council: This person will represent the Political Communication Interest Group on ECA’s Executive Council. The term will begin at the midpoint of the 2021 ECA Convention through and end at the midpoint of the 2023 ECA Convention. In other words, this person will be expected to stay through the end of the 2021 Convention in Cambridge, attend the full duration of the 2022 Convention in Buffalo, and be present for the very beginning of the 2023 Convention.

The two candidates for the position are as follows (in alphabetical order):

• Carl Hyden, Morgan State University
• Sean Luechtefeld, Johns Hopkins University
