ECA 2021 Convention - G.I.F.T.S. (Great Ideas for Teaching Students) Call for Submissions Reminder

2021 CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: G.I.F.T.S. (Great Ideas for Teaching Students)

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: October 15, 2020 11:59 PST

Resilience
2021 Eastern Communication Association Conference

March 24-28, 2021

Cambridge, Massachusetts

Hyatt Regency

Resilience is an apt theme for the 2021 convention as educators have had to adapt to teaching against the backdrop of a pandemic.  The “Resilience” theme provides us with an opportunity to highlight the Great Ideas for Teaching Students that have emerged from such challenging circumstances.  There is much to be explored within the realm of resilience and its intersection with communication concepts. To this end, please consider submitting a G.I.F.T.S. that centers on resilience as a means of fostering interpersonal relationships, inspiring interactions, critiquing artifacts, analyzing information, encouraging ethical behavior, among other connections.

As you consider your submission, please note that G.I.F.T.S.:

  1. Should be authentic and unique activities, games, or simulations geared toward entry-level, undergraduate courses that you have successfully used in your course(s).
  2. Should be able to be completed in one class session or less.
  3. Should connect to a specific communication skill, concept, and/or theory.

Though the 2020 convention was cancelled due to the pandemic, programming for the 2021 convention is based on a new call for papers.   ECA leadership announced that work previously accepted for the 2020 convention may be submitted elsewhere or submitted again for consideration for the 2021 convention.  We ask that only G.I.F.T.S. that have not been accepted and presented elsewhere be submitted for consideration for the 2021 convention.  (APA provides guidance about how to create a reference for a canceled conference presentation.)
