Teaching Speechwriting to Undergraduates Fri 10:00-11:15
Speechwriting, for political and other venues, is a valuable skill that ought to be part of an undergraduate communication curriculum. This short course, which is guided by the textbook Speechwriting: A Rhetorical Guide, is intended to encourage such a course by highlighting both its roots in Classical and contemporary rhetorical theory and its practical applications in a number of speech genres. A short course cannot go through an entire text, so the 75 minutes will be spent explaining what an undergraduate course in speechwriting might be like and highlighting (featuring instructor presentation and participant exercises) lessons from both the more theoretical and the more applied sections of the textbook (which registrants will receive a copy of).
