113th Annual ECA Convention

Submission Deadline: October 15th, 2021 

ECA invites submissions for short courses to be included in its 2022 annual convention program. The convention will take place in Philadelphia from April 7 to 9, 2022. The convention theme, Re(Union) 

Short Course Information

Short Course Submission Guidelines 

ECA will now be using Attendee Interactive to manage submissions and reviews. This is the same system used by the National Communication Association so you may be familiar with it. The deadline for submissions remains the same, October 15, 2021 at 11:59 PM. You will be prompted to create a new User ID and Password to submit your work.

Submission Instructions:  Log into Attendee Interactive and click on "My Submissions." Click on "Create New Submission"  Please include all required information as detailed below.  If the program is accepted, the short course syllabus (a slightly modified version of the submission document) will be posted on ECA’s website for review by potential participants.

Title

Provide a title that clearly indicates the focus of the short course. It should be succinct and meaningful.

Description

Provide a description (75 word maximum) that informs the reader of the intent as well as the content of the short course.  This description will appear in the convention program.

Target Audience

Describe the intended audience, why they would be interested, and how they would benefit from attending this short course.  

Shortcourse Outline

Provide a bulleted list of major topics with sub-topics (if applicable).  

Learning Outcomes

Provide a bulleted list the three to five major learning outcomes that participants will accomplish.  Each learning outcome should be a statement of what participants will be able to do or have learned upon completing the shortcourse.  For example: Participants will be able to implement multiple class activities that demonstrate theory application in the persuasion course.

Teaching Methods

Describe the teaching methods and pedagogical strategies that will be used to accomplish the learning outcomes described above.  These methods could include lecture, small group discussion, group activities, case studies, etc.  For example, if participants will leave with a greater understanding of communication theory, what learning activities will help them to achieve that outcome? Submissions should identify each pedagogical strategy followed by a description of the activity that will be employed to achieve the learning outcome.  

Technology Needs 

Indicate any technology needs (keeping in mind that equipment rental is very expensive and we may not be able to meet the need). Requests for technology support will not be met unless included in the proposal submission.
