ECA 2023: Political Communication Interest Group Call for Submissions
March 29 – April 2, 2023
The Political Communication Interest Group invites paper and panel submissions for ECA’s 114th Annual Convention. The convention theme for the 2023 ECA convention is “Harboring Innovation,” and the convention will take place within steps of Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. According to the ECA First Vice President’s (Jennifer Wadeck) call for papers, the word “innovate” represents making “changes in something established, especially by introducing new ideas, methods, or activities” and “to create transformation, revolution, metamorphosis.” The Political Communication Interest Group seeks papers, panels, and roundtables that reflect these meanings of “innovate” in their scope, objects of study, and contribution to political communication scholarship.
The convention’s location, Baltimore, Maryland, is a city rich of historical and political significance. Francis Scott Key famously wrote The Star-Spangled Banner while watching the Fort McHenry site being attacked by the British forces during the War of 1812. Battles ranging from the Civil War to recent fights over social justice in the past several years have taken place in Baltimore. The city is experiencing a renaissance in art, music, and business that will impact political and cultural discourse. The Political Communication Interest Group welcomes papers and panels that reflect the conference theme, and the interest group also encourages submissions that analyze the political legacy of the mid-Atlantic region of the United States.
Paper and panel/program submissions must be received by 11:59 p.m. (PST) on October 16, 2022.
ECA utilizes Attendee Interactive to manage submissions and reviews. An email will be sent to all ECA members with a link to the submission site in the coming weeks (NOTE: This link is also available on the ECA website – www.ecasite.org).
