Join a vibrant campus community whose excellence is reflected in its diversity and student success. The Department of Communication and Media invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track, Assistant Professor of Communication and Rhetorical Studies position to begin in August 2023.

The College of Arts and Humanities, home of the Department of Communication and Media, is dedicated to fostering creativity, curiosity, civic engagement, and critical thinking through a rich liberal arts curriculum that instills a capacity for productive action. The department’s faculty are active scholars and professionals who love teaching and are committed to student success, diversity, and ethical communication.
The ideal candidate will have experience as a rhetorical scholar in the Communication Studies discipline. The position requires teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses offered in-person and online in both synchronous and asynchronous formats, demonstrating attention to the needs of the department’s students, and collaborating with other departmental faculty and staff. The typical course load involves teaching four courses per semester.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
-Teach undergraduate courses in the department’s Communication Studies major core and Public Communication course area, as well as specialized courses.
-Engage in scholarly activities such as research, presentations, and publications.
-Serve the University and the community through participation in various committees.
-Mentoring and advising students.
-Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
-Ph.D. in Communication Studies or Rhetorical Studies (ABD may be considered. Must be completed before August 2023).
-Demonstrated ability to teach courses in public speaking, argumentation, rhetorical theory and criticism, and/or rhetoric and persuasion.
Preferred Qualifications
-Ability to develop specialized rhetoric courses.
-Experience teaching in different modalities or use of flipped pedagogies.
-Ability to teach graduate level courses.
-Research interests that align with one or more of the following areas: critical rhetoric, race or ethnicity, gender, queer rhetoric, social justice, social movements, political rhetoric, and visual rhetoric.
