Assistant Professor of Communication (Tenture Track)

Terms of Appointment: Assistant Professor of Communication; Tenure track; salary from a base of $50K for nine-month appointment. Date of appointment is Aug 9, 2023.

Job Description: Teach 12 credits per semester in the areas of human communication and core curriculum (e.g. International communication, Theories of Communication, Research Procedures, Gender Communication, Organizational Communication, Small Group Communication, and Interpersonal Communication). Teach in face-to-face and online settings. Teach at the undergraduate and graduate level and develop integrated work with other department emphases while promoting a strong collegial and student-centered atmosphere. Advise students, conduct research, supervise student research and internships, Provide service to the university, community, and profession.

Qualification: Required: Ph.D. in Communication or related field. ABD acceptable for initial appointment with completion by March 2024. Preferred: Teaching experience in Communication, including online teaching experience in Canvas LMS.

University: Pittsburg State University is a comprehensive, state-supported institution serving the four-state region of Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Arkansas. Located in southeast Kansas. PSU is within a two-hour drive of Kansas City, Tulsa, Springfield and the Ozarks/Branson area. PSU enrolls 5500+ students at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Department: The Department of Communication is in the College of Arts and Sciences and includes five undergraduate career emphases: Human Communication, Media Production, Multimedia Journalism, Strategic Communication, Communication Education, and Theatre. Also offered are an M.A. in Communication and an 18-hour graduate certificate that meets HLC criteria. There are 10 full­-time faculty and approximately 200 undergraduate and master's degree students. The department supports a communication research lab and is oriented toward experiential learning.
