Presented by Jack Banks and Nancy Bressler
Utilizing Innovative Media Based Pedagogies to Engage Our Students in Social Activism Sat. 4/1 1:45-2:30
This short course explores how instructors can employ students to analyze and create media that engages in social justice topics. "Slacktivism", or the idea of using social media to further an issue with very little exertion, is becoming a common idea. In addition, many people use hashtag activism as a way to further their own individual popularity, with very little regard for the community impact. This short course investigates how instructors can promote active student engagement in social issues through the innovative use of various types of media. Through the analysis and production of media, students can create examples of media that further our discussion of social justice concerns and civic action.
