ECA 2019 Convention -Community College Interest Group Reminders

Dear Community College Interest Group:

Welcome to Providence! I hope your travels have been pleasant. I hope to see you at the many great panels and GIFTS sessions we have planned. Please see the links below for the schedules for the CCIG and GIFTS sessions. Also, I hope you will be able to make it to the Business Meeting on Saturday morning at 8am in the Bristol Room.

If you have some free time to wander around, I think that you will find plenty to do. As a transplanted local, I recommend taking in anything Rhode Island, especially local food, history, culture, and drinks. The hotel is well situated downtown, right near the arts and theater district. If you have a free evening and want to see a play, “The Song of Summer” is playing at Trinity Rep theater, about a five-minute walk from the hotel. You can also stop by the Trinity Brewhouse before or afterwards. We are also in easy walking distance to College Hill. If you venture up the hill, check out the First Baptist Church of America, the houses on Benefit Street, and definitely go to Prospect Park for an excellent view of the State House and downtown. The RISD museum is also worth visiting, as is the Providence Athenaeum, the Stephen Hopkins House, and the John Brown House Museum. If you venture a little further down Benefit you’ll end up on Wickenden Street and then India Point Park.

Finally, if you are interested in meeting for a happy hour and some food with fellow CCIG faculty, we are meeting on Friday at 6:00 at Bar Louie, which is located right off Exchange Terrace at 1 Union Station. Just walk up Exchange to the Rhode Island Foundation building, then walk down the outside stairs and it will be to your left. If you’re interested, send me an email at mstutz@threerivers.eduso that I can plan for appropriate seating.

Have a great conference!
