ECA 2021 Convention - Communication Traits Interest Group Call for Submissions
Call for Papers - Communication Traits Interest Group - 2021 ECA Conference
The Communication Traits Interest Group is requesting paper and panel submissions for the 2021 ECA Conference in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The conference theme, “resilience,” provides an opportunity for educators, researchers, and industrial professionals to share, discuss, and learn about research studies on “resilience” across diverse communication contexts on a global scale. Particularly, this interest group seeks submissions that explore and examine the Communication Traits and their effects on the ways in which individuals and publics initiate, foster, communicate, perceive, comprehend, inspire, celebrate, and critique “resilience” in response to the persistent social obstacles and the emerging changes, challenges, and opportunities in communication endeavors and activities. The interest group is also interested in submissions that aim to investigate the roles of Communication Traits in the “resilience” processes in areas of media studies, strategic communications (public relations), humanities, education, health, science, technologies, economics, politics, and other related sectors.
Papers and panel proposals must be submitted electronically by 11:59 PM (PST), October 15, 2020.
ECA will be using Attendee Interactive to manage submissions and reviews. All submissions should be uploaded through Attendee Interactive. To submit your work, you will be prompted to login using ECA-specific credentials or to create an account. (Note: Do not use login credentials you may have created for any other association, such as NCA, that also uses Attendee Interactive.)
You may only submit a single paper or a panel proposal to one interest group or affiliate organization for consideration.
The Communication Traits Interest Group invites two types of submission. The specific requirements for each type are as follows:
Submission Guidelines for Complete Papers
Papers should be written in accordance with the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th edition or the University of Chicago Manual of Style (whichever is appropriate). The word count of the paper should be 6,000 - 8,000 words, excluding references, tables, charts, and figures. Papers should be saved and submitted in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) or Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) format. Before submitting a paper, please remove all author identification information from the document including any file properties. The following elements should be included in individual paper submissions:
Title
Description (Abstract; 75-100 words) and the Statement of Professional Responsibility (shown in italics below)
Student Paper (Yes or No)
Debut Submission (The word “Debut” should be marked on all papers written by authors who have not presented previously at a regional or national convention.)
Special requests (if any)
Upload complete paper and additional documents (file types accepted: Word or PDF)
Submission Guidelines for Panel Proposals
Please submit panel proposals in one Microsoft Word file (.doc or .docx) or Adobe Acrobat file (.pdf). Proposals should be written according to the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th edition or the University of Chicago Manual of Style (whichever is appropriate). Include the following items in all panel submissions:
Thematic Title
Participants (Names, Contact Information & Affiliations) including chair and respondent
Estimated Attendance
Special requests (if any)
Titles and abstracts for each paper or presentation
A program copy (no more than a 75-word description) as it should appear in the final program
A detailed rationale for the panel
Statement of Professional Responsibility (shown in italics below)
You must include the following Statement of Professional Responsibility with all papers and proposals:
In submitting the attached paper or proposal, I/We recognize that an accepted paper, panel, or poster is considered a professional responsibility. If this submission is accepted and programmed, I/We agree to register for the ECA convention, pay fees, and present the work. I/We understand that presenters with last minute emergencies should take all possible measures to arrange an alternate presenter, and communicate their plans to both the Interest Group Planner and ECA VP.

Special Note: This interest group is limited in the number of sessions it schedules and programs. Therefore, prior consultation with the planer about panel session ideas might be helpful and useful in coordinating the efforts of people who might be separately pursuing similar session ideas.
