116th Eastern Communication Association Annual Convention

The Theory and Methodology Interest Group invites submissions for the 116th ECA Annual Convention to be held March 26–30, 2025, in Buffalo, NY.
The Theory and Methodology Interest Group is open to competitive papers and program/panel proposals (including roundtable discussions and workshop sessions) from a variety of theoretical and methodological approaches including but not limited to rhetorical, qualitative, quantitative, critical, philosophical hermeneutics, philosophy of communication, communication ethics, etc.
We especially will be looking for submissions addressing the convention theme of Contemporary Problems, Creative Solutions. Submissions may be topically focused on theory and methods in the relation to a contemporary problem (e.g., climate change, AI, etc.) or more introspectively engage with current problems (and potential solutions) with the extant theoretical and methodological base of the field of communication.
Submission Guidelines and Required Statement
Please follow the instructions below for each type of submission.
Completed Papers should include the following components:
- A title of the paper (submitted via Attendee Interactive)
- Author’s affiliation and contact information (submitted via Attendee Interactive)
- The word “Debut” marked on all papers written by authors who have not presented previously at a regional or national convention.
- The word “Student” marked on the paper if it is written by authors who are undergraduate or graduate students. To be considered a “Student” paper, all authors must be students at the time of submission.
- An abstract
- A statement of professional responsibility on the second page.
- Upload final paper or additional documents (file types accepted: Word or PDF).
- Special Requests/Requests for AV: Please enter this information into Attendee Interactive rather than note any special requests on your manuscript. Due to cost, AV will be limited.
If the paper has multiple authors, submitters should indicate who will be presenting at the convention.
Program/Panel Proposals should include the following components:
- A thematic title for the program.
- Names of the chair and respondents (if any). Chairs should not also be designated as respondents.
- Names, affiliations, and contact information for all participants.
- Titles and abstracts for each paper or presentation.
- A program copy (no more than a 75-word description) as it should appear in the final program.
- A detailed rationale for the program/panel.
- A statement of professional responsibility.
Statement of Professional Responsibility
The following statement must be included with every submission of a paper or a panel in order for it to be eligible for review.
“In submitting the attached paper or proposal, I/we recognize that this submission is considered a professional responsibility. I/we agree to present this paper or program/panel if it is accepted and programmed. I/we further recognize that all who attend and present at ECA’s annual meeting must register and pay the required fees.”
Submission System Details and Deadlines
ECA uses Attendee Interactive to manage submissions and reviews. All submissions must be uploaded through Attendee Interactive, which can be accessed at https://ww4.aievolution.com/eca2501/. You will be prompted to either login using (1) ECA-specific credentials (you will be unable to use login credentials you may have created for any other association that uses Attendee Interactive) or (2) create a new User ID and Password to submit your work.
Paper and panel/program submissions must be received by 11:59 p.m. (PST) on October 16, 2024.
